PHOTO BOOK
Lyn Gaza's photo art book, The Other Side of the Mirror, presents four bodies of work created from 1981- 2004. This 112 page, hardcover edition, beautifully designed by Jeanette Abbink of Rational Beauty, focuses on a time before the distraction of the internet and social media, when time was our own. The book is now available for purchase on this site.
Night
The night series is inspired by the stillness and other worldly lighting captured after dark and enhanced by long exposures and projections. As a student at the Boston Museum School, Lyn explored the desolate industrial landscape of Boston. Eventually, she began populating the landscape with mysterious faces and figures from her imagination.

Day
After relocating to California, Lyn began using plastic cameras, pushed color and lens distortion to capture the new landscapes, people and locations that she encountered in her travels throughout the West. The images inspire nostalgia for mid-century photography, reinterpreted with an appreciation for psychedelic encounters and strange moments.

Dream
The Dream series is inspired by the art of female surrealists like Francesca Woodman, Ana Mendieta, Remedios Varos and Leonora Carrington. Forays into the Northern California landscape with her friends and creative collaborators, resulted in these surrealist images captured in unexpected places.

Transparency
In the Transparency series, parts of the female form are wrapped and reframed. The additional layer between camera and model adds a new dimension to what is concealed and revealed. The membrane is a psychological metaphor for protection vs. expression, which is further augmented by the chosen color palette.
